Mission Statement

The mission statement of the Hoosier Hills Literacy League is to strive towards eliminating illiteracy in South Eastern Indiana. The league was formed in 1984 by a group of committed volunteers.  The Hoosier Hills Literacy League is committed to family literacy through the following programs:

  • Pre-GED preparatory classes
  • English for Speakers of Other Languages Workshops
  • After school tutoring for students
  • One-on-one tutoring for ages 6 to 96!
  • Imagination Library, gift of a free book each month to preschoolers

In addition, the league trains and provides on going education, support and materials for our tutors who serve on a volunteer basis. Tutoring is conducted in both individual and small group settings. Also we promote issues concerning literacy in general.
