The Hoosier Hills Literacy League will administer the GED PRACTICE TEST for anyone interested in taking the GED test.  The official GED Practice Tests can help you determine if you are ready to take the GED test.  The Practice Tests include the same types of questions that are found on the GED tests.  The Practice tests are approximately half the length of the GED test.  By taking the Practice test, you can find out what areas you need to study before taking the full-length GED Tests.

The test will be given on Wednesday, July 1st from 10:00-12:00 and on Wednesday, July 8th from 10:00-12:00 at the Lawrenceburg Public Library.  There is no charge for the test.  Class size is limited and registration is required.  For information or to register, call Cindy DiBiase, Literacy Administrator, at 812-584-8516.

The Hoosier Hills Literacy League regrets to announce that Karen Brown will no longer be on the Board of Directors.  Karen will be relocating to Connersville, where her husband has accepted a position as basketball coach of Connersville High School.  The HHLL wishes to thank Karen for her time on the Board, as well as her time spent tutoring students.  Good luck in Connersville!

On that note, the Hoosier Hills Literacy League would like to welcome Beth Merk as our newest Board member.  Beth will be replacing Karen as a member-at-large.  Beth has resided in Bright, IN with her husband for 5 years.  A former high school math teacher, she now stays home with her 3 year old daughter and 7 month old son.  Having taught 7th grade at Shroder Padeia and 9th-12th grade at McAuley High School Beth enjoys helping people learn.  She is active in her church community of St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross and looks forward to serving the community of Southeast Indiana through the Hoosier Hills LIteracy League.  Welcome Beth!

Due to the generosity of both the Lawrenceburg Public Library District Foundation and the Aurora Public Library Foundation, the Hoosier Hills Literacy League is thrilled to announce that the Imagination Library book program is once again available to Dearborn County preschoolers.

Since January 2008, the Dolly Parton Imagination Library has reached 800 children, ages birth to five years old, who reside in Dearborn County.  The children have been receiving a free, hard cover, age-appropriate book in the mail each month.  If a child begins the program as a newborn, they can graduate out of the program with a library of 60 books!

Due to unprecedented demand, the program reached maximum capacity 9 months sooner the projected.  It became necessary to temporarily suspend the program.

Thanks to funding grants from the Aurora Public Library District Foundation and the Lawrenceburg Public Library District Foundation the program is up and running again with a lapse of just one month!

The Imagination Library is presently funded for 800 Dearborn County preschoolers- a waiting list will form as additional children register.  In addition, private donations are always appreciated and can be sent to: Hoosier Hills Literacy League, P.O. Box 3556, Lawrenceburg, IN  47025.

Any questions about the program can be directed to Cindy DiBiase at 812-584-8516.

I just wanted to say Thanks!

My daughter and I absolutely love these books!  They always come on time and pretty much the same time each month and we can’t wait.  They are really amazing books.  They are so much fun to read and my daughter has a blast.  They are a great learning experience for her.

So I just wanted to say thank you for letting my family be a part of such a fantastic Book Club.

To Whom it May Concern:

My children are 2 and 3.  We have been receiving books for about a year now.  They love it.  Every day they run to our mailbox to see if they “got mail”.  We read them their books at nap time and bed time.  They are enjoying them so much that they are starting to “read” back to us!  The only stories they want read are the books they receive!  After seeing how much they enjoyed this program I helped our neighbor sign her kids up so they no longer feel left out!  We want to thank you for the work and time you put into this.

Thanks,

Lori Kinsel
